An unusual arrangement of timing gears is shown on the new Paige-Detroit six-cylinder engine. Just above the crankshaft is a cross shaft which is driven by worm gears and which in turn drives three longitudinal shafts by means of more worm gears. These are the camshaft, the magneto shaft at the right, and another auxiliary shaft at the left which carries the fan pulley and drives a centrifugal water pump and a Gray & Davis lighting generator. This should leave nothing to be desired in the way of silence.
